132 ARGENTINE ANTARCTICA - POSTAL HISTORY
Auction #2110: WORLDWIDE + ARGENTINA: End of Summer auction
Cover /      Cat.#:
Fine     CRASH COVER: Cover with postmark of Melchior Antarctic base for 8/FE/1951 sent to Tucumán, it was delivered to the addressee along with a note of the Argentine Post explaining the delay: "...The Argentine fishing boat Tornquist that was to carry it to Melchior island sank near Orcadas del Sur islands, and the mail sacks were salvaged by the Argentine fishing boat Arpón, which took them to the Fakland Islands/Malvinas, from where the English John Biscoe carried it, in February of this year..." Very interesting document showing the cooperation between Argentines and the English at the time in that area, despite the sovereignty issues.
