518 MEXICO - POSTAL HISTORY
Auction #1946: WORLDWIDE POSTAL HISTORY, COVERS AND CARDS
Cover /      Cat.#:
VF.     20/NO/1860 Sacrificios-Rochefort, cover with original content, very interesting! Cover sent from Sacrificios, near the port of Veracruz, to France, with transit mark of NEW ORLEANS 26/NO, NEW YORK 9/DE, and several other transit and arrival marks. En 1860 Benito Juarez was president of Mexico, under the distrust of France, England and Spain, which launched a military intervention in 1861. France advanced, and in 1864 backed Emperor Maximilian, who was eventually executed by Juarez in 1867 in Querétaro. The sender of the letter was the Captain of the frigate Roy, commander of the brik "Le Meureure", very fine quality!
