725 ARGENTINA - POSTAL HISTORY
Auction #1920: WORLDWIDE + ARGENTINA: General May auction
Cover /      Cat.#:
VF.     Cover sent on 10/AU/1945 by the GERMAN PRISONER OF WAR Erich Koch (member of the crew of battleship Graf Spee) from the military camp in Sierra de la Ventana, stampless, with datestamp of origin and blue markings: "REPUBLICA ARGENTINA - PRISIONERO DE GUERRA" and "FRANQUICIA POSTAL - U.P.U. - ART.49 - P.2". The crew of the Graf Spee was from the start of the Second World War and for several years INTERNED (from late 1939), but they were not prisoners, because Argentina declared the war to Germany only on 28 March 1945. Very interesting and rare piece for the especialist, one of few known examples, very fine quality!
